Local professionals join North Coast Local Land Services board
10 April 2019
North Coast Local Land Services has welcomed prominent local professionals Patricia Walker and Gary Humphreys to its Board, appointed under the Local Land Services Act. Both new board members are well known to the region's communities.
Gary has had a long career as a senior executive in the electricity sector. He is currently an adviser specialising in business strategy and holds various non-executive director roles. Gary is a non-executive direction on Hastings Cooperative, bcu and CanAssist NSW. He lives in Port Macquarie and owns a farm at Cooperabung where he runs beef cattle.
Patricia, based in Bowraville, is the Manager of MiiMi Aboriginal Corporation providing advocacy and capacity building programs and has extensive relationships with the region's Aboriginal community.
Patricia's work is based on an ethos that when you highlight success, then communities can be responsive to change. Her aspiration is to give communities the tools needed to create positive change, particularly in her work mentoring young people.
North Coast Local Land Services Chair, Bob Smith, welcomed the broad experience and many skills the new members bring into the organisation.
"New Board members bring new insight and knowledge into how we can improve the services we provide landholders," he said.
"North Coast Local Land Services needs to be continuously increasing the value we provide to customers, and Gary and Patricia have the experience to contribute to this improvement."
Patricia said she was excited by the new role. "I'm looking forward to the opportunity to connect people across the region, to create relationships and share the information, advice and support the North Coast Local Land Services team brings to our region's natural resources, agricultural and associated industries," she said.
Gary echoed Patricia's comments, saying he was looking forward to the opportunity to build on the work of Local Land Services in the region.
"I will use my extensive experience in good governance and strategies, to help ensure the services offered by North Coast Local Land Services are relevant and effective," he said.
Mr Smith paid tribute to retiring Board members Mark Bulley and Tom Cooper.
"I would like to thank Mark and Tom for their invaluable input to North Coast Local Land Services. Both were inaugural Board members and have guided the development of essential services the organisation delivers today," he said.
Patricia and Gary join Joanne Brodie and Bob Smith (Chair) as the Minister-appointed Board members for North Coast Local Land Services, with the elected representatives being Neil Summerville, Tom Amey and Trevor Wilson.
