Emergency fodder available now for fire affected livestock
15 November 2019
North Coast Local Land Services and the Department of Primary Industries continue to work together to support landholders affected by the devastating impacts of the current fire situation on the North Coast.
As part of the response, we have opened emergency fodder pick up locations for fire affected livestock at a number of locations.
The current pickup locations are:
- Kempsey Showground, 19 Sea Street, West Kempsey.
- Macksville Showground, 111 Rodeo Drive, North Macksville.
- Grafton DPI Institute, Trenayr Road, Junction Hill.
It is important that affected landholders requiring fodder or other assistance for their livestock register via the Agriculture and Animal Services Hotline on 1800 814 647. The hotline is open 8 am - 8 pm Monday to Friday and 8 am to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday.
General Manager at North Coast Local Land Services, Louise Orr said “currently more than 2200 landholders with livestock have been affected across our region and we want them to know we are here to help.”
“These fires come on the back of the worst drought on record, so we know our landholders are under huge strain. It is essential that landholders register with the hotline so we know where you are and what help you require.”
“Our teams can help with emergency fodder and stock water for immediate welfare situations, feeding and nutrition advice, as well as veterinary assistance and where necessary, stock euthanasia and burial. We have also housed more than 2000 animals housed in local evacuation centres across the North Coast. These evacuation centres will remain open as required.”
“As the recovery efforts continue we will endeavour to get assistance out as quickly as possible, however, due to the ongoing fires some fire grounds and areas are still inaccessible.”
During the recovery, it is important that landholders in need reach out for assistance and call 1800 814 647, information about open evacuation centres and fodder pick up locations can also be found at https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/climate-and-emergencies/bushfires/current-situation
