North Coast Local Land Services establishes new Tweed Beef Focus Group

In response to enquiries from a number of local beef cattle producers, North Coast Local Land
Services (NCLLS) has formed a new beef cattle focus group in the Tweed Shire. Formation of
the group has been supported by a local stock and station agency and rural store, and local
membership is growing.

Senior Land Services Officer, Nathan Jennings, said “The Tweed Beef Focus Group currently
includes 19 beef producers and 1 dairy producer who are all keen to improve the productivity
and sustainability of their enterprises. The 20 members collectively manage close to 2,500
hectares of land and 3,300 head of cattle.”

Since NCLLS formed the group in January, members have come together for monthly on-farm
workshops where they hear from experts and share current information to help them address
key agricultural productivity, natural resource management and biosecurity issues. There is no
cost to join the group. Topics discussed to date include beef cattle nutrition, coastal pasture
management and seasonal outlook planning. The May on-farm workshop will address live beef
cattle assessment, including significant outcomes from recent Beef CRC research.
